Methamphetamine, commonly called crystal, crank, speed or simply meth, is a white powder that has a bitter taste. It can easily be dissolved in water and alcohol. This drug happens to be the most abused drug in the United States today. It is known to boost the energy and endurance of the individual who takes it, while also inducing a sense of euphoria. This drug may be abused by smoking, intravenous injections or snorting. Intravenous injections and inhaling are known to induce an almost instantaneous euphoric effect. The euphoric effects of this drug may last for a number of hours.
One thing to realize is that meth is a highly addictive drug. Underlining this fact is evidence that some users may become hooked it after using it for the very first time. Meth is known to work by adhering to the pleasure centers of the brain, bringing about an almost instantaneous sensation of well-being. When an individual takes the drug, there is an increase in heartbeat and respiration as well as blood pressure. With such instant gratification, the effects of other reward systems of the brain appear minute and incomparable. However, the initial gratification or high experienced by the individual remains the strongest and can never be duplicated despite incessant use of the drug.
